Preserve/Soothe, 2019
Preserve/Soothe considers the anxieties produced from having undergone a surgery to remove a benign mass; a ball, the size of a plum, from my hip. Through this removal and my processing of this surgery, I confronted my own corporeality and mortality. I did this through recounting a story my friend Sadie told me; she spoke of someone consuming their grief by holding a ball of snow while nude against their bare skin, numbing and soothing them like anesthesia.
